Materials Needed for this Wreath Ornament

Yarn – For this project I used Peaches & Creme cotton yarn in the color Forest Green for the wreath itself. For the bow, I used Lily Sugar’n Cream (sponsored link) in the color Red. For the ornament hanger and weaved in decoration, I used Lily Sugar’n Cream in the color Jute. the If you are looking for a perfect bundle of Holiday colored yarn (minus the Jute), I found this on Amazon.

Soda Ring – For the wreath form, I just used a ring from the top of a soda (also called pop here in Michigan) bottle. Doesn’t matter what color as you will not see it when finished.

Crochet Hook – I used a 4.5 mm ergonomic hook (sponsored link).

Scissors – Any scissors will do to cut yarn. I find these (sponsored link) fit well in my crochet kit.

Blunt tip tapestry needle – To weave in the ends. These (sponsored link) are great to keep in your crochet kit.

Crochet Stitches and Abbreviations to Know

Chain = ch

Slip stitch = sl st

Single Crochet = sc

Half double crochet = hdc

Double crochet = dc

Treble crochet = tr

Magic Ring = MR

For a comprehensive list of crochet stitch abbreviations, see the Craft Yarn Council’s Abbreviations Master List.

Note: This post contains pictures from a left-handed view (I am left-handed), but all concepts are the same. For example, if it says sc around the ring, then you will sc around the ring the same way you normally would.

Wreath Ornament Pattern

Start by inserting your crochet hook into the ring, then place slip knot on hook and pull it through and ch 1 around ring to secure – see pictures below.

Wreath

The wreath itself only has 2 rows.

Row 1: 18 sc around ring. Sl st into top of 1st ch to join.

Row 2: Ch 2, dc and hdc in same ch 2 space, *sl st in next stitch, hdc, dc, hdc all in next stitch*. Repeat * to * around until you have 9 “leaves” around the wreath. Sl st in last stitch. Then ch 1, cut off yarn and pull it through to secure. See pics below.

Jute Decoration

Chain 20, cut off yarn and pull through to secure. Insert one of the tails into your tapestry needle and weave around the wreath. Start from the back of what you will want to be the top of the wreath. Make sure to end where you will be inserting the needle from front to back so that you can tie the tails together in the back when you are done. I went over 2 sc posts, under 2 sc posts, over 2 sc posts, etc. You should have 4 green posts left at the top when you are done. This is ok because it is where you will be placing the bow. Once you are done weaving, double tie the 2 tails of the Jute together in the back.

Bow

First half: Start with a Magic Ring (MR) making sure to leave at least an 8 to 10 inch tail. Ch 4, 3 tr in MR, ch 4 (at top of 3rd tr), sl st into MR.

Seond half: ch 4, 3 tr in MR, ch 4, sl st into MR.

Pull MR tight to form bow shape.

Chain 1, cut off yarn (leaving at least a 8 to 10 inch tail), pull yarn through to secure. Now take both tails and wrap them taught (as tight as you can) around the middle of the bow. I wrapped mine around 4 times.

Take both tails and weave them into the back of the bow using your tapestry needle. Be sure to tie them in the back to secure.

Secure the bow to the wreath by using the remainder of the red tails that are now in the back. Using your tapestry needle, insert it through the wreath into the back of the stitches on the bow. I did about 4 on each side, making sure to go into a front stitch on the wreath and a back stitch on the bow each time. Finish with the tails close to each other in the back so that you can tie them together again to secure.

Ornament Hanger

Using the Jute colored yarn, chain 22. Cut yarn and pull yarn through the last chain to secure. Using your tapestry needle, pull a tail through the very top middle stitch of the wreath (behind the bow). Tie the 2 tails together tight all the way to where the 2 end chains are now touching each other. Double knot.

Weave in all ends and trim to finish. Enjoy your jolly new Crochet Wreath Ornament!

As you hang your crochet wreath with pride, may it serve as a reminder of the joy found in both the art of crocheting and the spirit of giving. Wishing you a season filled with creativity, coziness, and the magic of handmade treasures.

Happy Crocheting!
